Spring 2022 FSH Gardens Annual Weed Abatement, April 27th - 29th, 8:30am - 4:30pm for Both Gardens
In preparation for fire season, a contracted vendor will be conducting weed whipping and abatement at both Storke and West Campus Gardens. During this time for safety concerns, visitors, residents and gardeners are not allowed at the gardens during vendor work hours. Other impact: Loud noise, pedestrian detours, dust.
Gardeners and plot holders are expected to move items into their plot, clear their area of debris and remove hazards for the workers. If gardeners have questions or need temporary storage during abatement, please email the Garden Coordinators at: [email protected]. |

NEW Garden Faucet Signs - April 2022
Please work together in supporting water conservation and garden safety by turning off faucets after use. Faucets in high use areas have sometimes been left on or used for other purposes besides gardens. We recognize that our area draws non-residents/non-UCSB visitors. So community collaboration is needed to preserve our water resources and reduce damage or hazards for others. Thank you!
Regarding CA Wildfires: Check Air Quality
Go to AirNow to check current Air Quality by Zip Code. Be cautious of hazards to breathing in addition to the Coronavirus guidelines. More information on Wildfire smoke and Covid-19 may be found in the CDC Website. Scroll this page for more information below on other CA Hazards.

First Aid Kit Backpacks
Garden Sheds now include a First Aid Back Pack to stay at the gardens. Basic bandages, wraps, and gauze are included. Face masks and gloves are included only when stock is available. We recommend you provide your own face masks and gloves.
Inside the First Aid Back Packs are printed blank Injury Report forms to be completed in case of incident in the garden. |
Animal WildlifeStay safe, be aware of native wildlife.
Please be safe as more wildlife may be out seeking food, water or shade. Some of these animals have been seen in the FSH gardens: rats, squirrels, ferrets, gopher snakes, gophers, ducks and cottontail rabbits. IMPORTANT: If you see a snake at FSH or in the community garden, complete an online “Get It Fixed” work order, and it will be relocated to the wild. Please DO NOT Feed the Wildlife

Snakes
Throughout the year there are different kinds of snakes that can potentially inhabit the gardens.
WHAT TO DO:
|
Coyotes
Small pets and children should never be left unattended, and dogs should always be walked on a leash. Problems are more likely to occur when the animal is out of the owner’s control. It can also be helpful to carry a noisemaker, squirt gun or pepper spray. If a coyote approaches, pick up the pet or child, then start hazing. If the coyote does not leave, back away slowly while continuing to haze and go indoors if possible. Any aggressive behavior should be reported to the local police or animal control officer. If bites or other injuries are sustained, medical attention should be sought.
NOTE: Photos below are of a coyote spotted at West Campus near the marsh / lagoon area 12-08-2021.
